2. Overview

EpubForge is an Android app that processes files locally. PDFs, comic archives, images and generated EPUB files selected by you are not transferred to Gey Digital servers for conversion. Gey Digital does not operate a conversion server, user account system or proprietary purchase backend for EpubForge.

The app may nevertheless process data locally and use a network connection for Google Play Billing. These activities are described separately below.

3. Files and document content processed

You select source files yourself. Depending on the conversion mode, supported formats include PDF, CBZ, CBR, ZIP, JPG, JPEG, PNG and WebP. The app analyses and processes text, images, layout information and metadata exclusively on the Android device. Depending on the file type, a local working copy may be stored in the app's private storage.

Gey Digital neither stores document content nor uses it for advertising, profiling or AI training. EpubForge does not include an AI feature and does not transfer documents to a proprietary backend. Completed EPUB files are saved in the output folder selected by you.

4. File and folder access

EpubForge uses the Android Storage Access Framework. The app receives access only to files and folders that you select through the Android file picker or provide through the Open with or Share functions. Android may persist these read or write grants so that ongoing or later conversions can access your selection.

EpubForge does not request broad permission to browse all device storage. You choose the working folder and output folder and can change or reset them in the app. Access grants can also be revoked in Android settings or through the relevant document provider.

5. Locally stored data

The following data may be stored in app storage or folders selected by you:

• app and conversion settings
• URIs of selected files and folders and persisted Storage Access Framework grants
• conversion jobs, status, progress and timestamps
• file names, file sizes, output destinations and generated file sizes
• analysis results, warnings, error messages and local technical job logs
• local working copies of source files where required for reliable processing
• local Pro status and the number of successful free conversions
• temporary working and build files

This data supports app functionality, resuming jobs, diagnostics and history display. Local job logs record technical processing steps and errors, not the complete document text. They are not automatically transferred to Gey Digital.

6. Temporary files and working folder

During conversion, extracted images, XHTML files, analysis results, archive files and EPUB build files may be created locally. They are stored in app-internal storage or the working folder selected by you.

When automatic cleanup is enabled, EpubForge removes working files after processing. The app also provides a function for deleting temporary files belonging to inactive jobs. This does not delete source files or completed EPUB files.

7. Conversion history

EpubForge stores its conversion history locally. An entry may include the file name, source and output URI, timestamps, status, progress, file sizes, settings, warnings and error messages.

Deleting a history entry removes the local job record, related app-private source copies and working files. The original source file and completed EPUB file in user-selected folders remain in place.

8. Google Play Billing and app distribution

After limited free use, EpubForge can be unlocked through a one-time Pro purchase. There is no subscription. Purchases, restoration and licence checks are handled through Google Play Billing. The app processes the information required to determine purchase status and activate Pro, particularly the product identifier, purchase status and purchase or licence token.

Gey Digital does not receive complete credit card or bank details. Gey Digital has no proprietary payment or purchase backend; Pro status is stored locally. When the app is downloaded or updated, and during purchase or licence checks, Google may process Google Account, device, purchase, licence, security and technical diagnostic data under its own responsibility. 9. Advertising, analytics and tracking

EpubForge contains no advertising and no analytics, tracking or crash-reporting SDK configured by Gey Digital. Gey Digital does not create user profiles and does not receive document content. The Google Play Billing Library and its Google components may transmit data to Google for purchase processing, security, fraud prevention and technical diagnostics; this is separate from local document conversion.

10. Network access

Document conversion takes place locally. Network communication may occur in connection with Google Play, purchase processing, restoration, licence checks and the related technical Google services. EpubForge does not upload source documents or generated EPUB files during these operations.

11. CBR processing with UnRAR

CBR archives are extracted locally using an included UnRAR component. Their content is not transferred to RARLAB or Gey Digital. The component is used exclusively for local archive processing.

12. Android permissions and system functions

• Google Play Billing: used for the one-time Pro purchase and purchase restoration.
• Internet and network status: used for Google Play Billing, licence checks and related Google services, not for document uploads.
• Wake lock, foreground service and start after reboot: included through Android WorkManager so local conversion jobs can be scheduled, executed and resumed reliably.
• Storage Access Framework: provides access to explicitly selected files and folders without broad storage permission.

In the reviewed release, the app does not request permissions for location, contacts, camera, microphone or broad management of all files.

13. Legal bases, recipients and international transfers

Gey Digital has no access to document content that is processed exclusively on your device. Where Gey Digital processes personal data in connection with providing Pro functionality or answering support requests, the principal legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. Article 6(1)(f) GDPR may apply to necessary security, misuse prevention and administrative processes.

Google entities responsible for Google Play may receive purchase and store data. Google may process this data outside the European Union in accordance with its own rules. Document content is not transferred to Google as part of conversion.

14. Retention, deletion and control

Gey Digital does not store document content on its own servers. Local settings and histories remain until you delete them, clear app data through Android or uninstall EpubForge. In the current release, app-private data is excluded from Android cloud backup and device transfer.

Files in user-selected output or working folders may remain after uninstalling the app. You can delete history entries and temporary files in EpubForge, remove output and working files in a file manager, change or revoke folder grants, and clear app data through Android. Because no EpubForge account exists, there is no server-side account deletion.

Google retains purchase and licence data according to its own policies. Support emails are deleted after the request has been resolved unless statutory retention obligations require otherwise.

15. Your data protection rights

Subject to the applicable statutory requirements, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, objection and withdrawal of consent. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.

Because document content and history are not transferred to Gey Digital, Gey Digital cannot remotely access or delete this local data.

16. Minors, file content and security

EpubForge is not specifically directed at children under 13 and contains no advertising, social functions or user accounts. Users are responsible for converting only files they own or are authorised to process.

Local processing, the Android app sandbox and the Storage Access Framework reduce transmission risks. We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures, but complete protection cannot be guaranteed.

This privacy policy will be updated if app functionality, legal requirements or services used by the app change. The current version and update date will be published on this page.
